Prayer in the Garden

(Luke 22:39-46)
The Garden of Gethsemane was probably at the foot of the Mount of Olives and about one-half to three quarters of a mile to the northwest of the walls of Jerusalem. Jesus and His disciples often stayed there.

Now Jesus understood that His arrest, trial and execution were imminent. His disciples, however, were still unaware of what was about to happen. In preparation for this ordeal, He went away to pray and asked His three closest disciples to join Him. His prayer was fervent but his disciples fell asleep. Jesus asked that God the Father take this time of trial away, but concludes with His request that the Father's will - not His own - be done.
